Shionogi enters into a new license agreemen‌∑t and research collaboratio₩→n for the treatment of mycobacterial diseas÷'≤es with Hsiri Therapeutics, Inc.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2019

Shionogi & Co., Ltd. today announc∞™¥βed that it has entered into a new lic≥€≈‌ense agreement with Hsiri "₹×"Therapeutics, Inc. (Head Office: Media, PA, USA;>₽ President and CEO: William Cla&λ<ypool, M.D.; hereafter "Hsiri") regarding a≠& collaborative research an ≠d development program to discov↕πer and develop additional novel therape£εutics for non-tuberculous m♠•✘γycobacterial (NTM) diseases<∏ and tuberculosis (TB). This new  ∞ ®collaboration will include technologπ↑"€y that complements Shionogi's♦  earlier collaboration arrangement with δ Hsiri.

The new technology to be↓™←' licensed from Hsiri has a novel mecha"φnism of action, will be complemen↑←‌tary to Shionogi's current research with Hsir∏ i, and is anticipated to be more effective than βα☆current therapies for mycobacteri•↑"§al infections. Shionogi's st‍‌ ∑rength in small molecule drug di>♣∑scovery and development in the antibacteri←¥↔↔al area will support development of Hsirφ>•♦i's innovative therapeutics in♣♠ ¶ this collaborative program. Un≠♦↕der the terms of this agr¥‌eement, Shionogi will±×≥‌ have exclusive worldwide right♠®∏s to develop, manufacture, and commerciali≠↓ze the compounds generated©λ from the collaboration. Hsiri will receive an ‍→ upfront license fee, potential de≈©γvelopment milestones, a™€£nd royalty payments based on sales from₽← Shionogi.

It is reported that the number of patien®<φ↑ts suffering from NTM diseases ♣σεhas been increasing, especially in de±±veloped countries, in recent years. There ' ♦✔is a medical need to develop novel anti-NTM★σ drugs because of the long duration of t×↓φreatment and insufficient treat≤ש♠ment outcome of current therapeutλ∞ics. TB is one of the∞ three major infectious diseases in the world, an¥α✘d new cases of TB are estimated to be  •←ε10.4 million/year. Multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-  ¶ TB) and extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB) h™×♠"ave become a major public health concer≠$≤n, and novel drugs for MDR-TB♠→ < and XDR-TB are anticipated.

Shionogi's research and deveγ∞>lopment targets infectious disease as one of its ↓☆priority areas, and Shionogi have positi oned "protecting peop£©≥le from the threat of infectious>≠α£ diseases" as one of its social ¥★mission targets. Through this coope¶↔↔ration, Shionogi strives coσ×₽αnstantly to bring forth‌§ innovative drugs for the treatment of infectiou "s diseases, to protect the health$φ'σ of patients we serve.
